United SC played out a 0-0 draw against Bhowanipore FC in a CFL Premier Division – Super 12 fixture played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday evening.
United SC coach Eelco Schattorie had to field a second string outfit due to a number of injuries and availability issues with newcomers like Sheikh Azim and Rajinder Kumar being part of the starting line-up.
The start was not up to the mark from the Purple Brigade but they slowly strengthened their grip on the game, creating a number of dangerous moves. They created three goalmouth opening chances in the first half, as Biswajit Biswas played a brilliant through ball with Lalkamal Bhowmick and Mohammed Rafique unleashing a couple of long-range efforts. However, none of them were able to get their team the lead.
Bhowanipore FC also had their share of chances as seasoned Jose Ramirez Barreto’s header was saved well by Abhijit Das while another chance at the dead end of the half was also gathered well by the custodian. The teams went into the break with the deadlock yet to be broken.
After the break Eric Brown and Deepak Mondal were brought into the action and the midfielders created a number of clear cut chances. Two shots of Eric were saved well by Debjit Majumder but United SC failed to take advantage of the other chances as well.
After the match, United SC’s Dutch coach Eelco Schattorie said, “If you see both the teams today, then according to the performance, you realize they have not so much difference, we create two opportunities in first half and as well as second half, Biswajit, Rafique, Rajinder played well. We also tried with Eric but it’s another bad day when we stay again goalless.”
