Delhi Dynamos rope in Mumbai FC goalkeepers Sanjiban Ghosh and Ishan Debnath

Delhi Dynamos bank on young Sanjiban Ghosh

Delhi Dynamos might be called the ‘Galacticos’ of the Indian Super League this season, but they have their own set of injury woes, before the start of this year’s campaign. Goalkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury has been injured for the last six months or so and despite heading to Brazil’s Atletico PR for treatment, he hasn’t recovered from the knee injury yet.

Earlier last week, the team management called Mumbai FC’s Sanjiban Ghosh and last year’s East Bengal keeper Abhijit Mondal for trials. The Mumbai FC custodian was selected in place of Mondal and interestingly, another former Mumbai FC goalkeeper Ishan Debnath has also been added in the Dynamos squad before they travel to Goa.

Ghosh started his footballing career with Southern Samity in Kolkata before joining Mumbai.F.C for the I-League in 2011 He then made his debut for the Mumbai squad in the I-League on November 10, 2012 against Salgaocar, which they lost 1-0.

He has so far made 9 first team appearances for Mumbai FC in the I-League.

Interestingly Ishan Debnath also started his career with Mumbai FC, the same year with Sanjiban Ghosh. After making six appearances for the Mumbai outfit, he switched to Prayag United (known as United S.C now) in Kolkata the following year.

The Delhi Dynamos team management did not want to replace Roy Chowdhury at the start of the campaign, since they wanted to give him some more time to recover. But, it seems as he won’t be able to win this race against time.

Roy Chowdhury was phenomenal for the ATK team last season and was considered as one of the main performers behind the team’s ISL win. Roy’s movement and ball judging ability was of top notch. He was excellent, especially with the aerial balls.

Keeper Ravi Kumar is also unfit and highly unlikely to recover from the injury before the start of the ISL. He injured himself while training during the pre-season of the Delhi side.

After not being able to progress to the following round of the ISL last season, Delhi Dynamos strengthened their squad heavily this time around with a new coach, new marquee player and a new look team to win the competition this time.

Marquee player-cum-manager Roberto Carlos is undoubtedly one of the biggest signings of the ISL this year and he has a lot to work on for the team this year.

Delhi Dynamos will have to bank on the experience of John Arne Riise and Roberto Carlos in the defense to cover up for the lack of experience under the bar, for their first match against Zico’s FC Goa team.
