Rurka Kalan, Jalandhar – Preparations for EDU Football League are in full swing! Rurka Kalan’s boys and girls have started gearing up for promoting the event, a charitable initiative organized by YFC Rurka Kalan in the village.

More than 500 children including 300 boys and 200 girls gathered at Youth and Sports Complex at Rurka Kalan in the afternoon yesterday. The promotional rally started from YFC centre and made a visit to all the nearby villages. Each contingent of 29 participants of boys and girls was lead by a football coach. The kids made a plea to all the community members such as farmers, shop keepers, working professionals and most importantly parents to come and support the participants in the league.

All the teams promoted a fight against drugs campaign called ‘Nashe to door raho! Padho, likho aur aage badho!’. The participants raised slogans to show their stand against drug menace and female foeticide in Punjab. The rally was accompanied by famous leading singers such as Geeta Jaildar, Mangi Mahal, Lehmber Hussainpuri, Raj Jhujar and Balraj Bilga who asked the people to come forward and donate towards this noble cause.

“’The 3rd edition of EDU Football League, starting from 12th January, will be much bigger and better this time, compared to previous two editions. I hope this league can be emulated all over Punjab,” said Gurmangal Dass, YFC President, whose vision is to see the academy’s players play in the international arena.

The rally saw participation from various parts of the Punjab such as Bundala, Kanha Dhesian and Attari border.

This is the 3rd edition of the league where 1,000 underprivileged children from 11 different football centres across Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar will participate. The EDU Football League project will target more than 50 teams of boys in Under-12, U-14, U-16 and U-19 age groups and 13 teams of girls in specified age categories.

These players will participate in competitive 7-a-side football matches and will be engaged in educational workshops every weekend for two months, starting 12th January. Track suits and sports kits will be provided to all the participants free of cost. The participating teams will get opportunities to win the Winners’ and Runners-up trophies and get selected for the ‘best player’ awards.
