Football Five

The highlight of this week were the game changer matches along with the second committee meeting of Football Fives League which lead to brainstorming between the franchisee owners and organising committee on ways to improve the league and maintain the professional standards. This week many players took the spotlight with their goals and amazing play.

Barefoot FC had a tough competition in Football Aura. Both the teams were equally competitive and having played many matches against each other previously, were fully aware of each other’s game.

“A lot of extra practise – say three days a week – had gone into the game. We were confident that we are going to win it. It was also crucial for us to maintain our league standing and this week, we are in position 3,” says Prajval from Barefoot FC.

“It was a close game for us. We didn't want to write off AURA after our first half lead. The second half game plan was to maintain the lead and to try and get more goals as possible. Aura bounced back well but our boys played well to secure the 3 points,” said Calvyn Marshall from Barefoot FC.


AL-Fateh FC Vs. XLR8 FC (5-2)

With this week’s game, Al-Fateh FC has risen to the 5th position on the league's table. The advantage Al-Fateh FC have is that theirs is a young squad against the experience of XLR8. Al-Fateh FC is a strong team and look like serious competition to the other teams in the league.

This game was very crucial for Friends United FC and took them to the top of the table. The game was played at Astro Arena. Both teams started strongly and the game was played at a high-intensity level. The deadlock was broken by Friends United player Vahid on 12 mins.

They doubled the lead just before half-time with goal from Ravinder. The second half saw Friends United come quickly off the blocks with the man of the match, Sudarshan scoring 4 goals in the second half. Ankith scored a consolation goal for FairPlay and the game ended with the score 8-1.

“It's not about winning for Friends United but playing every game with our heart out and playing some good football. As it says on our jersey, Love for the game is what drives us to play,” was what Shiv from Friends United FC had to say.

In one of the biggest upsets of the season, Super Park came from 3 goals behind in the first half to win the game 8 - 6. With 2 goals in the final minutes, Bala gave his team their first win of the season and picked up his first player of the match award as well.


Bullring Matadors Vs. West Block FC (5-2)Bullring Matadors: Akshay 7 Punith (8’, 12’, 13’, 39’ )West Block FC: Suhas 9’ Deepu 36’Man of the Match: Punith

Bullring started strongly and kept possession. They dominated possession which led to a goal from Akshay, followed by a goal by Punith. West Block FC broke through the defence with a goal by Suhas. Top scorer of the game Punith, who was in fine form, immediately broke through the defence of West Block FC in the 12th and 13th min. The second half was much more competitive and Bullring maintained the momentum and eventually won the game.
