Robin Petersen, ex CEO of SAFA enumerated seven pillars which would take GFDC and Goan football and consequently, Indian football forward. These are

1. Alignment of all three sporting bodies – If Goan football needs to develop all the three bodies GDFC, GFA and SAG should work collectively for the common good and common goal – betterment of the game. This includes the youth development, and its structure in schools, clubs and in the running of GDFC.

2. Development of foot ball philosophy

3. Building of robust talent pipeline

4. Competitions based not on knock-out tournaments but on well-structured leagues.

5. Achieving a coach-player equation of 1-15 or at the least 1-20. One coach for every 15 or 20 players.

6. Creating the right infrastructure which includes facilities and match officials viz referees.

7. Sports Science and Sports Medicine – using the best insights and staying up to date with latest developments the world over.

When asked as to why many of the African nations came up with superb football talent, Dr Petersen attributed it to the physiology and innate sporting abilities of the West Africans who he affirmed are blessed with a superior sporting make-up that enables them to excel in various sporting disciplines.

Dr Petersen also added that Goan football is poised at a very exciting phase, having accomplished much in one year thanks to GFDC’s initiative, and overall has a very bright future.

He attributed this to the drive, passion and commitment of the officials to achieve something substantial. He however added, “The planning is good, but the implementation suffers on account of lack of infrastructure, but overall the future is bright.”
