Defending champions Salgaocar FC made the perfect start to their 2013 Goa Professional League campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Sesa Football Academy at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Friday afternoon. A brace from Gilbert Oliveira and goals each from Aslon Oliveira, Brian Mascarenhas and Clifton Dias earned the Green Brigade a comfortable victory over the Sirsaim-based side.The Sesa Football Academy had the chance to take an early lead, only for Albino Gomes to deny Chukwudi Chukwama from close range. As time went on Salgaocar began to settle down and were dominant through the flanks with captain Rocus Lamare and Karma Tsewang playing in some delightful balls but the SFC strikers couldn’t capitalise.Finally in the 30th minute Salgaocar took a well-deserved lead after Clifton had an easy task of finishing off a wonderful move created by Gilbert and Aslon. Within a space of seconds Salgaocar doubled their lead, when Milagres Gonsalves did well to find Aslon in the penalty area, who made no mistake from close range. Salgaocar should have put the game to bed before the break but poor decision making in the final third let them down on a couple of occasions. SFC led 2-0 after the first-half.Salgaocar began the second half from were they left off but they failed to add to their tally despite some fine build-up. At the hour mark substitute Brian Mascarenhas made his first contribution of the match by beating the Sesa keeper with a rasping drive from 25 yards out to give Salgaocar a three goal cushion.
In the 70th minute Sesa Football Academy had a great chance to reduce the margin but once again Albino denied Chukwudi from a handshaking distance. Minutes later Salgaocar added a fourth to their tally when Gilbert beat Sesa FA keeper Jerson Pereira with a curling shot from the edge of the box. Gilbert scored his second of the match after making no mistake from close range to give SFC their fifth goal. At this stage of the match it was looking very bad for the young Sesa Football Academy, their defence all over the place but they were lucky not to concede further.
The match ended 5-0 in favour of Salgaocar FC and a perfect start into the local league for new coach Derrick Pereira.
