Sporting Clube de Goa scored a 1-0 win against I-League rivals in the Goa Pro League – Round 7 match at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Saturday afternoon. The winner came off long-time SCG winger Joseph Pereira.

With the win Sporting Clube de Goa moved into second spot with now 16 points from seven matches, while Dempo SC stay fourth with 11 points from the same number of matches.

New Japanese recruit Shinnosuke Honda made his debut for Dempo SC in their defence in a 4-5-1 formation which assistant coach Mauricio Afonso applied in the absence of head coach Arthur Papas.

Sporting Clube de Goa had the better start into the match but Liberian-born Australian striker Boima Jerry Karpeh continued his goalless run as he shot over and was then blocked by young defender Jessel Carneiro. Thereafter the match evened out between the two sides with loads of action in midfield. Just before the break the goal of the day decided matters as the Flaming Orange combined through Arturo Navarro García and Boima with Joseph Pereira finishing off the move.

The match after the break also didn’t rise to any great heights as Sporting Clube keeper Ravi Kumar denied Romeo Fernandes his teams best chance in the second session.

The match ended 1-0 in favour of Sporting Clube de Goa.
