Defending champions Salgaocar FC dropped their first points and conceded their first goals against I-League rivals Sporting Clube de Goa in a 1-2 defeat in the Goa Pro League at the Duler ground in Mapusa on Monday afternoon.

Ex-Salgaocar midfielder Cajetan Fernandes opened the scoring for Sporting Clube de Goa in the first half and they doubled the lead in the second session through Victorino Fernandes with Gilbert Oliveira reducing the deficit in injury time.

Both teams had their chances early on but good goalkeeping and missed chances kept the score goalless before Cajetan Fernandes gave the Flaming Orange a rather surprise lead off a Boima Jerry Karpeh pass. Sporting Goa went into the break with the 1-0 lead.

Surprisingly Salgaocar could not get a grip on the game after the break as Sporting Goa could have doubled their lead. Towards it got interesting as Salgaocar could have equalised through Milagres Gonsalves before Victorino Fernandes in the 85th minute made it 2-0 for Sporting Goa.

But the match was far from over as Gilbert Oliveira reduced the deficit in the first minute of injury time of Gagandeep Bali, still it was too little to late as Sporting Clube de Goa won 2-1 against Salgaocar FC to inflict the first defeat on the Derrick Pereira coached side.

After their round five encounter Salgaocar stay put on 12 points, while Sporting Clube de Goa now have 10 points.
