Goa Pro League: Sporting Goa beat Goa Velha 5-1, Jerry again scores four goals!

England v Belgium - International Friendly

For the second match in a row, new striker Boima Jerry Karpeh hit an amazing tally of four goals as the ten men of Sporting Clube de Goa hammered Goa Velha SC 5-1 in the Goa Pro League at the Duler ground in Mapusa today. Despite Jovel Martins being shown a straight red card in the 65th minute, the Flaming Oranje still managed to dominate proceedings for the remaining 25 minutes of the match.

Sporting Goa coach Óscar Bruzón Barreras made four changes to the team that demolished Margao 11-1 recently. In came goalkeeper Sourav Chakraborty, defenders Joyner Lourenco and Charles Cardozo, as well as winger Valerio Rodrigues.

After a barren first half shy of any real goalmouth action, Sporting Goa made a double substitution at half time, which made an immediate impact and considerably changed the destiny of the game. In came Ogba Kalu Nnanna and Beevan D’Mello, in place of Valerio and Cajetan.

Within five minutes, Jerry was played through on goal by Beevan and he calmly slotted home to give Sporting Clube de Goa the lead. Just four minutes later, Beevan was in the thick of the action again as he curled in a delightful corner which eventually was scrambled in by young Lesten Martins. But just when Goa Velha looked down and out, Manuel Crasto blazed a 35-yard screamer into the top corner, to give his side a fighting chance and despite Goa Velha’s spirited attempts to grab the equaliser, Sporting Goa had enough ammunition to continually push forward and punish them.

Nine minutes from the end, Sporting Goa’s Pratesh Shirodkar’s corner was met by the head of Jerry and like slow-motion, it crept into the roof of the net. Four minutes later, Sporting Goa’s Jerry ran onto a neat chip from Rowllin Borges to spectacularly smash into the goal on the half volley, leaving the rival goalkeeper with next to no chance of saving it. Then, two minutes from time, substitute Victorino Fernandes ran menacingly down the right side before carefully dribbling past his marker along the goal-line and delivering the ball on a platter for Jerry to tap in from close range for his fourth goal of the day.

Sporting Goa have now collected six points from two matches, having scored an incredible 16 goals, and are leading the table on goal difference, thanks largely to Jerry’s eight goals in two matches.
