The future of India’s FIFA U17 World Cup hero Jeakson Singh Thaunaojam is under a certain level of uncertainty, as he is reportedly yet to sign a contract with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to play for the developmental side Indian Arrows in the I-League.

While Jeakson was present at the launch of the I-League, the official top-tier league of the country, and was unveiled as one of the players for the Indian Arrows, there seems to be a fair amount of uncertainty surrounding his contract.

Interestingly, Jeakson, who is yet to sign with the Arrows, already has a contract in place with the Minerva Punjab, sources close to the I-League club said to Sportskeeda.

With no concrete contract in place for Jeakson, AIFF had even asked Minerva for a loan move for the player. However, with relations between the club and the federation seemingly on the decline, it remains to be seen what eventually comes off this whole ordeal.

Earlier, Minerva owner Ranjit Bajaj had lashed out against the AIFF on Twitter, for allegedly syphoning off players from his club.

This creates the problem of who he will be playing for, once the league gets underway on November 25, as Minerva Punjab take on Mohun Bagan in the season opener.

The 16-year-old, who created history in the recently concluded FIFA U17 World Cup by scoring India’s first goal in a world cup against Colombia. Although India were beaten 2-1 by the Colombians, they earned huge plaudits, for what was seen as a hearty performance from the Blue Colts.

Jeakson’s stocks have risen considerably since his U17 World Cup heroics, with the Minerva Academy player being linked with a move to a number of top clubs from not just India, but also from around the world.

The AIFF had decided, after the World Cup, to gather all the U17 and the U19 players together under one banner, the Indian Arrows, and let them play the professionalised I-League.
