What's the story?

In a massive shot in the arm for Aizawl FC, the club has confirmed the signing of one of their defensive lynchpins from the inaugural season, 26-year old Lalchhawnkima, for the rest of the season.

The defender will join the Aizawl ranks once he bids his goodbyes to Mumbai City FC, a team which he was representing in the ongoing season of the Indian Super League.

In case you didn't know

Born in the picturesque state of Mizoram, Lalchhawnkima played all of his youth football for Mizoram before he was drafted into the Royal Wahingdoh side as part of his first experience of top-flight football in the I-League second division.

This will also double up as the ace defender's second stint with Aizawl FC, having represented them during the 2016 season of I-League.

The heart of the matter

The 26-year old made his professional debut for the Royal Wahingdoh against Mumbai in the 2014 Federation Cup and consistent performances for his team saw him earn a lucrative contract with Atletico de Kolkata ahead of the 2015 season.

However, an unfortunate hamstring injury ruled him out of the whole season following which his services were procured by Aizawl FC for their inaugural season of the I-League.

Fondly referred to as 'Kimkima' in the inner circles, the defender made seven appearances in what turned out to be a rather shoddy season for Aizawl FC as they finished second last on the table.

A stint with Mumbai FC in the 2016-17 I-League season sandwiched his signing with the Delhi Dynamos for the third season of the Indian Super League and then the Mumbai City FC ahead of the 2017 season of the Indian Super League.

Announcing the re-signing of one of their ex-stars on their official twitter handle, Aizawl FC confirmed that he would turn out for them in the remainder of the ongoing I-League season.

What's next?

Currently placed sixth on the points table, Aizawl FC will face off against the Indian Arrows FC in their next match, a match in which Lalchhawnkima could play his first game this season.

Author's Take

With acres of experience under his belt, the 26-year old will hope to infuse some energy in the defensive unit and bring more wins in Aizawl FC's favor.
