What's the story?

Chencho Gyeltshen could soon be sporting the colors of Mohun Bagan, as transfer talks are in advanced stages. The Minerva man lit up the I-League this season, helping his side finish as champions. Mohun Bagan will look to exploit this opportunity to sign the Bhutanese forward as they look to bring back the glory days.

In case you didn't know...

Chencho played a big part in making sure that Minerva Punjab finished as champions. He finished with 7 goals, the highest by any Minerva player while also being named the best forward in the process.

Chencho has been nicknamed 'CG7' because of his playing style.

The heart of the matter

Mohun Bagan are in advanced negotiations to bring in Chencho Gyeltshen from Minerva Punjab, Sportkeeda has learnt.

The Bhutanese forward, who is also the top scorer for his national side, is coming off the back a great season for Minerva Punjab. Chencho was instrumental in Minerva's eventual title win and has naturally attracted interest ever since.

There was also reported interest from ATK a while ago as the side from Kolkata were trying to make Chencho switch between the top two Indian tiers. Mohun Bagan's fierce rivals East Bengal were also looking to add Chencho to their books.

Mohun Bagan will be looking to add to the firepower they already possess by pairing Chencho with Aser Pierrick Dipanda. Dipanda finished as the top scorer last time around and a potential link-up with Chencho will definitely give the opposition defenders nightmares.

What's next?

While there has been no official confirmation yet, a transfer is on the cards.

Author's take

Rightly named the 'Bhutanese Ronaldo', Chencho lit up the league last time around and a possible transfer has been touted ever since. A move to Mohun Bagan will sit well with all the parties involved. If completed, the transfer will certainly signal Mohun Bagan's intent to go for the title as they look to pair up two of the deadliest forwards currently plying their trade in India.
