Shillong Lajong may have had seldom gone offensive throughout the course of the 90 minutes but when they did, they made sure that it was worth the effort.

Minerva Punjab were cruising on in the first half with chances after chances as Shillong Lajong had all of their man behind defending. A long ball into the Lajong box fell to Souvik Das who set up Jagpreet Singh for a shot. Jagpreet's shot was blocked on it way and fell to Phrangki Buam. Buam made a quick run and played Samuel Kynshi on the right. Suddenly, after Minerva's domination on the ball turned to Lajong on the counter with three men against one.

Samuel Lynshi calmly found the on-rushing Lajong Left back Allen Nongbri, who placed it with absolute placid past a hapless Arshdeep Singh with the deftest of touches to put the hosts 2-0 ahead.
