What's the story?

After a trophy-less season, Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan seem to have landed themselves in a soup. As many was 14 of the club's top officials resigned from their respective posts, on Monday.

In case you didn't know...

Mohun Bagan have already had a turbulent season, with long-time manager Sanjoy Sen being announcing his resignation among stone-pelting from fans, ahlf way through their campaign. To add to that, the Green and Maroons have not been able to win any of the trophies.

The heart of the matter

The main bone of contention for the 14 members who put down their papers was the lack of action from club secretary Anjan Kumar Mitra and treasurer Madan Mohan Dutta, who were tasked with absolving club debts amounting to around Rs 3 crore.

These dues include player salaries, amounts to be paid to travel agents, among other things. "Today, with a heady heart we have tendered our resignation from our respective post in the Executive Committee of Mohun Bagan with immediate effect," the members said in a letter.

What's next

While further clarification on the matter is as of yet awaited, Mohun Bagan have called a press conference on Wednesday, in order to clear the air.

It is indeed disheartening to see that a top Indian club like Mohun Bagan is going through such turmoil. It is not just the players and the club that is being affected by the recent happenings. The club also boasts of a large and passionate fan base, who are also left in the lurch about the ongoings within the club that they support. IT now remains to be seen how the club gets itself out of this impasse.
