Friday 27th March: The I-League resumes for the Reds from the North East as they aim for a fresh start and will look to secure three points when they face off against Sporting Clube de Goa on Saturday at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa at 7 pm. The match will be telecast live on Ten Action.

Lajong have not had the best of the starts to this year’s I-League campaign. The team won against Mumbai 1-0 at home (out of three played at home) and won their first away match in Goa against Dempo SC 2-0. Unfortunately, these are the only two wins that Lajong have managed so far as they have struggled to pull themselves up.

Lajong are currently sitting in the 10th position this season while Sporting Clube are in the 11th position with just 4 points from 9 games. In their last I-League match, Lajong lost to Salgaocar in Goa.

Although the team dominated the match, Singto’s boys faced defeat by a scoreline of 2-1. Thangboi Singto stated that tomorrow’s fixture might be the most important match so far for the team and they need to give maximum focus and team effort.

“Sporting Club de Goa has always been a good team irrespective of the present standings. It will be a difficult match for us. They have a very balanced team”.

He further said, “The current team morale of Lajong is indeed good but a win in tomorrow’s match will certainly boost up the spirit of the team and also help us to play cohesively and do well in all our remaining matches”.

“We respect Sporting Goa but we have to believe in ourselves and our abilities and play to our potential and end the match with a good result’, he said.

The likes of Cornell Glen, Penn Orji, Uilliams, Boithang & Len will need to combine well up-front as the opposition will bank on Odafe Okolie and Antony Wolfe and Victorino Fernandes in tomorrow’s match to make a positive impact for the team.

The hosts from Goa are coming into this fixture after playing out a 2-2 draw against East Bengal in Kolkata. The team are currently last in the I-League standings but are hoping to turn things around after registering two new foreigners to their roster. Sporting Clube signed Odafa Okolie and Mahmoud Al Amenah last week.

The two players made their debut for Sporting against East Bengal last week and their addition to the squad certainly made a huge impact. The Flaming Oranje came from behind and denied three points to the Kolkata giants as they levelled the scores at 2-2.

The Goan outfit are also seeking for a win in order to boost their confidence in the league. Anthony Wolfe and Odafa Okolie will have to play a crucial role and fulfil their goalscoring duties for their team.

The two I-league outfits are in need of three points in order to better their position in the League. A win is crucial for both sides and tomorrow’s match certainly promises to be a very important encounter for both teams who are struggling at the bottom of the table.
