Constantine’s decision to promote youngsters in the national team must be hailed. But there are lot of instances when he overlooked talented footballers and selected those who were still novice to play at this level. One such example is Germanpreet Singh.

He played only one match in the Asian Cup against Thailand, coming on as a substitute.

Before his selection in the squad, Germanpreet’s only notable contribution in India colours was against Myanmar in the Asian Cup qualifier match in November 2017. The Gurdaspur-born midfielder showed solid organisational abilities to keep the rampaging Myanmar attackers at bay.

However, the same form was missing in Asian Cup. While Germanpreet has good physique and strong passing ability, inconsistencies prove to be a bane for the youngster. His ISL form doesn’t look good either. He still has lot of work to do before cementing his place in the national team.

India have plenty of talented midfielders who could take Germanpreet’s place and Stimac might choose one among them who suits his game plan.
