What's the story?

Bhaichung Bhutia has launched a new Political party, in a press conference in Delhi on the 26th of April. Bhutia recently announced that he is cutting all ties with All India Trinamool Congress, as he was looking for a higher Political position in the country. He has now taken a major step in that direction.

In case you didn't know...

Bhutia is one of the most decorated Indian footballers of all-time. The Sikkimese played in front of goal for the entirety of his career. Having started his career with East Bengal, Bhutia even moved to England for a period of over 4 years. He also went on to represented the national side on more than 100 occasions, scoring 40 goals and also serving as the captain until his retirement.

The heart of the matter

Being an inspiration to many young aspiring footballers, Bhaichung has also made it his duty to serve the people and joined All India Trinamool Congress a few years ago.

However, he quit the political party in order to move up in the same sphere and has now done so, by launching his own party. Bhutia's party is called 'Hamro Sikkim' and will serve as a means to create a fairer environment for the people.

In his first conference, Bhutia has underlined some key issues, which he will tackle with his party.

"Corruption, unemployment, high suicide rates, drug use, and lack of leadership in the state are some key issues for me," he said while addressing the media.

"I hope my joining politics will inspire youngsters in Sikkim and rest of the country. Whatever you do today is through policies made by political leaders. It's easy to criticise them, but it also important that good people come forward and get into the dirty part and clean it"

What's next?

With a Political party at his disposal, Bhutia will be able to fulfil his dream of serving the nation, even more than he already has.

Author's take

People often argue that sports and politics should do not go with each other, which is right to a great extent. However, someone like Bhutia, who has proven that he has what it takes to lead the people, things might take a turn towards the good.
