Indira Gandhi Academy SE scripted a 2-1 win over India Rush Soccer Club in the Hero Indian Women’s League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Shillong on Wednesday evening.

Both the teams started on a positive note and even created chances occasionally but, failed to score. Sandhiya and Nisha also had chances to score in the early stages of the match, but then scoreline was not disturbed. The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute when Indira Gandhi Academy SE’s striker Pradeepa’s left footed shot found the back of the net.

India Rush appealed for a penalty in the 13th minute but the referee overlooked. Conceding the goal helped up the ante and soon found the equaliser. Dalima Chibber scored a wonder goal shooting from 40-yards away from the target and making it even stevens in the 28th minute.

The match came alive following the goal, and the fans present out there enjoyed an exciting contest. It was cut-throat competition on either side of the field. Indira Gandhi Academy SE got an easy chance on the stroke of half-time, but the goalkeeper was alert and averted the danger.

Indira Gandhi Academy SE dictated terms from the beginning of the second half, while the opponents found it difficult to make a mark in the game. Sumitra almost scored if not Rush’s goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan hadn’t made a mind-blowing save.

Although India Rush tried pressing hard in the closing minutes of the game, they failed to score the second goal. They will face Eastern Sporting Union in their next tie on March 31. On the other hand, Indira Gandhi Academy SE will face the likes of Gokulam Kerala FC on the same match day.
