The Indian Under-14 girls football team are stuck in Nepal after a massive earthquake, which measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, rocked the Asian country. The final and the 3rd place decider matches in the 2015 AFC U-14 girls Regional Championship, in which the young girls were participating, were suspended due to the disaster.

The Indian team had lost 1-0 to hosts Nepal in the semis and were due to face Iran, who were beaten by Bangladesh in the other semi-final, in the 3rd-place playoff on Saturday.

Both the matches – the final and the 3rd-place playoff – were suspended due to the huge destruction in the capital city of Kathmandu. However, the Indian team could not leave the affected nation as the airport was shut and would open for operations tomorrow.

The team, along with other participating nations, are said to be safe, taking shelter in an open stadium. The Indian Government and AIFF officials are in touch with the team manager.

The Nepal government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas.

Our prayers are with the victims and we wish safety for everyone in these trying times.
