What's the story?

Boris Singh Thangjam, who played for the Indian squad during the FIFA U-17 World Cup, will be seen in ATK’s jersey for the upcoming 2018/19 Indian Super League season after the club confirmed the signing of the defender.

In case you didn't know...

The Manipur born footballer came into prominence when he was included in the AIFF Elite Academy batch that was in preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India last year. He was fielded during the World Cup and soon was called up for the I-League team Indian Arrows team which consist of India U-20 players to give them exposure to top flight football.

The heart of the matter

ATK is one of the most successful clubs in the history of the ISL, but it failed to fire in the previous season in the 9th position. With a new look to the team and a new coach Steve Coppell, the management and the fans are hoping for a turn around this season. Young Boris Singh may prove to be a vital member of the squad in the defence, considering the fact that he has played at big-ticket events before, the experience will come handy.

Foreign recruitments like Nigerian Kalu Uche and Brazilian Everton Santos in the frontline, midfielders Manuel Lanzarote and Noussair El Maimouni will provide the much-needed support to the forwards. A strong Indian bunch of players like Prabir Das, Arnab Mondal, Cavin Lobo and Shiekh Faiaz, the unit looks pretty balanced ahead of the season.

What's next?

With less than a month left for the Indian Super League to kick-start, the teams are engaged in last-minute preparations for the tournament. With the preparatory tours mainly outside the country, the owners are spending every penny to ensure a fruitful campaign. The 2018/19 ISL season will begin on September 29, when ATK will play against Kerala Blasters FC at the Salt Lake Stadium.
