ISL 2017/18: Kerala Blasters FC create history, win back to back away matches for the first time

Iain Hume scored 4 goals in the last two matches

What's the story?

Kerala Blasters FC created history on Sunday night after they scripted a victory over Mumbai City at the Andheri Sports Complex, Mumbai. This is the first time that the team has won back to back away matches in the history of the ISL.

In case you didn't know...

Kerala Blasters FC have been one of the most consistent sides in the Indian Super League, but they were struggling this season with only one win under former manager Rene Meulensteen. Consecutive victories in the matches against Delhi Dynamos and Mumbai City FC under newly-appointed boss David James has given them a hope to qualify for the knockout stages.

The heart of the matter

The Yellow Brigade has been in red-hot form in the last two matches, bagging full six points from the two back-to-back away matches, the feat achieved by them for the first time in the Indian Super League. The 23rd-minute strike from foreign recruit Iain Hume sealed the tie for the away team.

Canadian striker Iain Hume is leading the squad from the front scoring all the goals in their last two wins, which includes a hat-trick in the match against Delhi Dynamos. They have a strong side and still have a lot of time to turn the tables. Presence of experienced players like Dimitar Berbatov and Indian sensation Sandesh Jhingan will enhance their chances.

What's next?

The Kerala-based team will now play two home matches, one against FC Goa and the other against Delhi Dynamos. This is the perfect opportunity for them to get right back into the tournament. The massive home support will make their job easier. Kerala Blasters are currently sixth on the table with 14 points from 10 matches.

Author's take

The Sachin Tendulkar co-owned side has made it to the finals of the Indian Super League in two out of the last three seasons, which speaks loads about their capabilities. But their shaky start to the season hampered their chances this year to some extent. The two wins will give them a lot of confidence, but they have to continue the good spell to qualify for the semi-finals.
