ISL 2017/18: Kerala Blasters score in 14 consecutive matches, script unique record
What's the story?
Despite being blessed with a host of exceptional players, Kerala Blasters had a moderate season this time around. With legendary players like Wes Brown and Dimitar Berbatov in its roaster, it was expected that the team would take the league by storm.
However, they started the new season with two draws, and was unable to slot one past the goalkeeper in the first two fixtures, since then, the team have managed to score in all the remaining 14 matches, thus creating a unique new record. No other team has managed to score in so many consecutive matches.
In case you didn't know
Kerala Blasters kick-started their campaign playing against the defending champions ATK. However, the end-result was a goalless draw. In their second game, the team from Kerala went onto concede another goalless draw against new entrants Jamshedpur FC.
The heart of the matter
Since their goalless draw against Jamshedpur FC, the Sandesh Jhingan-captained side has scored in all the remaining games. They started their goal-scoring streak against Mumbai City FC and have been able to score goals in all matches.
Indian Super League's all-time top scorer, Iain Hume, has contributed five goals for the team. Fan favourite CK Vineeth has also scored four games for the team.
Kerala Blasters is slated to take southern rivals, Chennaiyin FC in their next clash. With the remaining two games being "Do-or-Die" for the side, they'll be looking to come out with a victory and will aim to extend their goal-scoring record to 15 consecutive games.
Despite scoring at least one goal in 14 consecutive matches, the Blasters have not managed to secure a firm position in the table. After sacking Rene Meulensteen and bringing David James in, they have managed to overturn the tables somewhat. The team will be hoping to secure a win against Chennaiyin FC as it will likely help them hike the possibilities to ensure a spot in the coveted top-four.
