After a disappointing ISL season, NorthEast United FC are close to roping in two promising young Indian players in the form of former Delhi Dynamos midfielder Simranjit Singh and ex-Mohun Bagan winger Nikhil Kadam for the upcoming campaign.

NorthEast have been on a poor run of form this season, and have eventually finished bottom of the table despite a mid-season overhaul. They had started out the season under Portuguese manager Joao De Deus.

However, failure to get the desired results resulted in his sacking, before former Chelsea manager Avram Grant was appointed as the head coach of the side. While their overall standard of play seemed to improve after Grant's takeover, the Israeli coach was still not able to affect much of their results, as the Guwahati-based outfit finished at the 10th spot in the league.

Now, looking to build a strong squad for the upcoming season, the Highlanders are in advanced talks with both Simranjit and Kadam, Sportskeeda can confirm. According to the transfer laws in India, clubs can only buy a player from another side when the transfer window is open. However, the signing of free agents and loan deals can be completed even when the transfer window is closed.

Simranjit, who had started out his career in Minerva Punjab, had a disappointing season at Delhi Dynamos, as he played only one match in the entire season.

Kadam, on the other hand, has had a brilliant season with I-League giants Mohun Bagan, who went from mid-table obscurity during mid-season, to challenging for the I-League title on the final matchday of the season.

The 24-year-old from Kohlapur was a livewire down the flanks for the Green and Maroons, feeding their top marksman Dipanda Dicka. Despite the late-season surge, though, the Kolkata giants failed to clinch the title from under the nose of league leaders Minerva Punjab.
