After having struggled under former head coach Joao De Deus, NorthEast United FC are set to give their new boss Avram Grant the backing he requires to resurrect the Highlanders' season, with new foreign signings.

After already having signed Portuguese midfielder Helio Pinto in the January transfer window, NEUFC are said to be close to signing Swedish forward Maic Sema.

The Highlanders have been struggling this season, and have only been able to win three out of their 10 ISL matches so far. Two out of these three wins came in their last three matches under new manager Avram Grant.

Sportskeeda had earlier reported that NEUFC are looking for attacking options from Europe. Now the Guwahati-based club is said to be close to signing 29-year-old Sema, according to sources close to the club.

Sema is a well-travelled player, who has made appearances for clubs in Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Cyprus. He has even made three appearances in the Europa League qualifiers for Norwegian club Haugesund.

Nost recently, the 29-year-old Swede was spotted with some of the members of the NorthEast United FC squad, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati, during the Highlanders' 3-1 victory against Chennaiyin FC.

Sema is mostly known to have played as a winger or as an attacking midfield player. However, there have been speculations that striker Luis Alfonso Paez may be dropped from the squad, paving the way for the Swede to take up a more attacking role as a no 9.

All has not been lost for NEUFC, as they are still in contention for making it to the top-four spots for the first time in the history of ISL. Their win against Chennaiyin certainly did their chances a world of good, and the new management seems to have brought in positive changes in tactics.

It remains to be seen whether the new management and the new signings can indeed turn their season around.
