What's the story?

The Delhi Dynamos are set to bolster their squad for the ongoing ISL 2017 season as they are set to sign India U-17 star forward Shubham Sarangi.

A source close to the player has confirmed to Sportskeeda that the terms have been agreed between the player and the club and that an announcement is expected soon.

In case you didn't know

The forward was part of the Indian probables squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup and played a key role in India's matches on their international preparatory tours.

He was picked for the team as a potential star earlier this year, thanks to the scouting network built by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Director of Scouting Abhishek Yadav. From 5000 budding stars, Sarangi was one out of the few players who were shortlisted by the AIFF for the national camp.

The heart of the matter

The forward is expected to sign for the Dynamos on a three-year contract, according to the source, with the option of extending it by a further two years. The signing could have been completed earlier as well but the youngster was reportedly waiting on a confirmation on a foreign offer, which eventually did not fall through.

Sarangi could now also be set for a training stint abroad in Qatar at the Aspire Academy, who have tied up with the Dynamos this season.

Though he was not a part of the final Indian team for the World Cup, the forward was on the side that recorded an impressive 2-2 draw against Benfica's junior side during an exposure trip.

What's next?

The signing is set to be completed very soon as Sarangi is poised to become another U-17 star to join the ISL after Komal Thatal.

Author's take

It is quite exciting to see a future prospect such as Sarangi joining an ISL side and one hopes it helps him grow as a player.
