What's the story?

Stiven Mendoza is easily one of the most loved foreign players in the Indian Super League. During his two year stint with Chennaiyin FC, the striker won the coveted trophy and was also the fan favourite of the Super Machans.

In the latest advancement, the 25-year-old has signed for the Ligue 1 side Amiens SC in what will be his first expedition in Europe. The French side announced his signature on Twitter and have signed him on a three-and-a-half year deal.

In case you didn't know...

Mendoza had arrived at Chennaiyin FC from Deportivo Cali in 2014. After scoring four goals in nine games, the Colombian was signed by Brazilian giants Corinthians only to be sent back on loan to the ISL.

His second season in India was his best season till date where he scored 13 goals, delivered 3 assists and played a huge hand in Chennaiyin's march to the title.

The heart of the matter

Amiens are currently 16th in Ligue 1 and are just two points safe from the relegation zone. They are crying out for attacking reinforcements at the moment and hence the signing of Stiven Mendoza could not have come at a better moment. The 25-year-old spent the last season at Bahia on loan where he scored 8 league goals and was the club's top scorer.

Mendoza can play anywhere along the front line but has been utilized the most on the left wing. He likes to cut inside and have a pop at the goal, a trait which has earned him goals wherever he has plied his trade.

What next?

After signing on, Mendoza is starting tonight for his new side against Montpellier in a home league game. He is starting on the left with Amiens playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Stiven Mendoza was one of the most talented forwards to play in the Indian Super League and it is no surprise that the Colombian has secured a move to one of the top five leagues in the world.
