What's the Story?

Chennaiyin FC marksman Jeje Lalpekhlua once again proved why he is one of the best players currently in the ISL. After a sluggish start to the season, the forward is now in red-hot form and was voted the player of the month for December by the fans.

The Mizo Sniper received 47% of the votes and finished ahead of Bengaluru FC's Miku. Jeje has been in phenomenal form this season as he has scored 4 goals in the competition in 8 appearances. Incidentally, all the 4 goals came in December which put him in contention for this award.

In case you didn't know...

The 26-year-old is one of India's best talents at the moment. He made his India debut in 2011 and has gone on to appear 46 times, scoring 20 goals in the process.

Heart of the Matter

Chennaiyin FC played 6 games in the month of December, they won 4 games, drew and lost one each and Jeje's influential playmaking had a lot to do with CFC's success in December.

Jeje started off the month with a bang, when he scored twice in a closely contested win against Atletico de Kolkata. He scored against Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC, later in the month, as CFC ended up winning both the games.

What's Next?

Chennaiyin FC are currently sitting at the second position in the table with 16 points from 8 games. FC Pune City are first with 16 points from 9 games, CFC are in a better position as they have a game in hand over FC Pune City.

CFC will require Jeje to maintain his goalscoring if they aim to cement their position in the top 4. They play their next game against Delhi Dynamos FC on January 7.

Author's Take

Jeje is one of India's best players and it is truly heartwarming to see him deliver the goods after a lacklustre start. Jeje will be hoping that he can continue finding the back of the net in January too.
