What's the story?

Kerala Blasters star Iain Hume added yet another memorable ISL record to his name as he became the first player in the history of the competition to make a total of 50 appearances. The Canadian star came on as a late substitute in his side's 1-0 win over NorthEast United on Friday, thus breaching the 50-mark.

In case you didn't know

Hume is one of the biggest stars in ISL history, which is currently in its fourth season. Hume is one of the very few foreign stars to have featured in each edition of the tournament and is also the all-time top scorer in its brief history.

The heart of the matter

He broke the record by making an injury-time entrance in his side's win on Friday, where CK Vineeth scored the only goal of the game and which was enough to secure his side's first win of the campaign.

The Canadian star is looking for his second ISL title this season, having won the crown in the last edition with Atletico de Kolkata (now known as ATK). The first season saw him turn out for the Kerala Blasters, where he reached the final, and became a firm fan favourite.

However, he played for the Kolkata-based side for the next two editions, which saw him win the title by defeating the Blasters in the final. This season though, he re-signed for the team from Kochi and under former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen, he will look to take his side all the way.

What's next?

The Blasters will travel to Chennai for the next game, where they will face off against Season 2 champions Chennaiyin FC on December 22.

Author's take

Given his incredible record and consistency in the league, it is no surprise to see the Canadian become the first player to reach the 50-game mark.
