What's the story?

ISL franchise Northeast United FC are reportedly looking to replace head coach Joao Carlos Pires de Deus with their former manager Cesar Farias, owing to a string of poor performances this season.

In case you didn't know...

Cesar Farias is a Venezuelan manager, who was at the helm of the Northeast United FC back in the second season of the ISL and helped them finish at the fifth spot in the league. Farias has managed the Venezuelan national team as well as the Venezuela U20 team. He is currently the manager of The Strongest, a club from Bolivia.

The heart of the matter

Northeast United FC have been struggling in the ISL so far, having won just one game in the seven matches that they played. They are currently on a four-match losing streak with a 5-0 humiliation against FC Pune City being the latest.

Sources close to the club revealed to Sportskeeda that the Northeast United FC management is not happy with De Deus and the string of poor performances from the team. They are looking at Farias as a capable replacement for De Deus. However, the financial viability of getting a new coach in the middle of the season could be a problem for the franchise.

The winter transfer window begins on January 15 and the franchise is said to have a couple of new signings planned in January to bolster their squad. If they sack De Deus, then they would have to pay severance to him and his entire coaching staff. Also, the money that would have to be paid to Cesar Farias is being considered before making the final decision.

What's next?

An official announcement from the Northeast United FC management is awaited as they get ready to take on FC Goa at home on January 6, 2018.

Author's take

The signing of a new coach in the middle of the season could prove to be a boon for the Northeast United FC as De Deus' style does not seem to be working for the Highlanders. Although, the franchise also has certain limitations and after consideration of all the factors, a decision in the right direction should be taken by them if they want to succeed in the league.
