NorthEast United FC have successfully completed the signing of German-born Greek winger Panagiotis Triadis for the remainder of the Indian Super League which is scheduled to begin later this month.

The new foreign recruit will be a vital cog in the attacking half with Uruguayan Fredrico Gallego beside him. Triadis has played for the German U-15, U-16, U-17 teams respectively and also for the Greek U-19 football team.

The 26-year footballer started his professional career in Germany with SV Wehen Wiesbaden II, he subsequently moved to Greek top tier side Xanthi and plied his trade at the club for more than five years. After a short stint with Apollon Smyrnis, he was roped in by India’s NorthEast United FC.

Dutch Bartholomew Ogbeche has been prolific for them scoring 9 goals so far in the tournament while Gallego was pinpoint with his assists.

Triadis’ inclusion will make the line-up stringer than ever before and help their cause to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time in their history.

Rowlin Borges has been pretty solid in the central midfield position while Redeem Tlang also contributed as per his potential.

Eelco Schattorie has done fine work with the team so far in the season. The Northeast-based side is currently at the fourth spot with 20 points from 12 matches which includes five wins and five draws.

Highlanders' head coach Eelco Schattorie was delighted with the latest addition to the squad and said, "Triadis is a player that can play on the wings and midfield. He has the German fighting spirit in him which is always welcome. Hope he hits the ground running as we are already short on time. We welcome him into our family and will support him all the way."

The ‘Highlanders’ resume their Indian Super League campaign on January 26 against Chennaiyin FC at home following the International break.

If Rowlin Borges and Co. manage to maintain their form, it is likely that they will get through to the semi-finals of 2018/19 ISL.

All eyes will be on Triadis when he takes the field at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium next week, following which they will travel to Bengaluru to play against the league leaders four days later.
