ISL: Alessandro Del Piero confirms move to Delhi Dynamos

The 2006 World Cupper will be playing in the ISL

Italy and Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero confirmed that he is joining Delhi Dynamos in the Indian Super League through his official Twitter and Facebook accounts.

The 39-year-old also confirmed that he will be an ambassador for India’s new league.

Del Piero has signed a four-month contract with ISL’s Delhi franchise and becomes the fourth World Cup winner to join the ISL after Joan Capdevila, David Trezeguet and Robert Pires.

After 19 years and numerous major trophies at Juventus, Del Piero joined Australia’s Sydney FC in 2012 and spent two years there. He also had offers from Hungary’s Honved FC but chose to join the ISL.

Del Piero also released a statement on his personal website. Down below is the English translation of it.

I am happy to announce that I have just signed a contract that will tie me to the club Delhi Dynamos and the Indian Super League for the season that is about to begin. I will be a team player who will participate in the new Indian football league and I will have the honor and responsibility of being the ambassador of the league which will have the task to spread and grow the image and popularity of football in the country.

This is an exciting new adventure for me, which fits perfectly in the path that I have undertaken since I left Juventus, three summers ago. I feel a “traveller on the roads of football,” the field is not the only thing that matters. It also counts what’s out there. And above all, the possibility of combining the competitive aspect to the role of “ambassador of football”, with the pride of being able to represent my wonderful sport in the world, which is a fundamental part of my life since I was born. That’s why I’m happy with the results from the Australian football movement in these two years.

And that is why India, another station of this fantastic journey. A new league, the Indian Super League, a new team, Delhi Dynamos, new fans, so much excitement, so many people to meet and hopefully “win” with a ball between the feet and beyond.

Next stop: India. I'm coming.

See you soon in New Delhi.

Alessandro
