Jockey Club International 2018: Indian U-16 side clinch title after win over Hong Kong U-17 team

What's the story?

The India U-16 side clinched the Jockey Club International title on Sunday, as they beat home team Hong Kong U-17 side 4-2 in Hong Kong, on Sunday.

In case you didn't know...

The Jockey Club tournament is a competition arranged for the U-17 sides, but India has sent its U-16 contingent to have the best possible preparations for the AFC U-16 Championship, later this year. The youngsters also won a game in Dubai before coming to Hong Kong and will next travel to Spain.

The heart of the matter

Beating the hosts 4-2, the Indians carried on their winning juggernaut. Bekey Oram scored a brace in the first half, while Rohit Danu and Lalrokima confirmed the victory for the Blue Colts by netting in the second interval.

India beat Chinese Taipei U-17 4-0 in their first match of the tournament and then followed it up with a 3-1 win over the Singapore U-17 side. Bekey Oram and Rohit Danu have been the pick of the players for the Indian U-16 side, scoring four and three goals respectively.

What's next?

After their Hong Kong expedition, these talented set of individuals are set to travel to Spain. They will play three matches in Europe and will face off against the youth sides of Sampdoria, Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

The results and the performances have so far gone in the way of the Indians with the preparation for the AFC U-16 Championship being right on track. The boys have proved their mettle against the Asian sides and will now be confident to battle against the top European club sides.
