It’s been a year of change for Liverpool, highlighted by the departure of club legend and long serving captain Steven Gerrard for MLS outfit LA Galaxy and followed by the induction of new players, a new backroom staff and last but not least a new shirt sponsor. The new sponsor in question is American sportswear giant New Balance, who have taken over the production of football equipment from their subsidiary Warrior Sports. Designing the Liverpool kit was surely a massive task for New Balance as the clubs all red kit is one of the most iconic in world football, but it looks like the company handled that challenge quite well. With that in mind let’s take a look at Liverpool’s 2015-2016 kits.
The Home Kit
Liverpool’s home kit has to be designed carefully by any manufacturer considering its iconic status and New Balance have done quite a great job with it, managing to even put a beautiful thought behind it. The front of the legendary red shirt features a cheques and lines design, which is inspired by the distinctive mosaic formed by the Kopites when they hold their flag and scarves up high at Anfield. The collar is traditional rather than polo and features a yellow piping which is also present on the sleeves. The club crest and the sponsorship logos all come in white. The thought behind the home kit is simply stunning and will go a long way with supporters for sure.
The Away Kit
The away strip this year gets an all white design with dashes of the club’s iconic red in various places. The club crest along with the sponsor logos are all red as well as the collar and the sleeves, making up for a rather unique design. New Balance have made the right move in choosing to go with a simplistic look as beauty is almost always derived from simplicity rather than complicated designs which did not go down well with supporters two seasons ago. All in all the away kit will surely satisfy fans this season.
The Third Kit
Liverpool’s third kit gets an all black design this season which is rather classy. This year’s away kit features white stripes on the majority of the torso as well as white and red piping on the sleeves. The collar will be a polo, unlike its two other peers, which adds some distinction to it. The logos of course are all white, which blends in neatly with the background. Not a bad third kit all the away cup games I must say.
Unfortunately Liverpool’s kits won’t be officially available in India as New Balance doesn’t have a presence here yet, but fortunately we live in the internet age where the world is a global village and ordering one online wouldn’t be any hassle. Liverpool has a huge fan base in India so expect to see quite a few jerseys on our shores soon. The club are looking to put the disappointments of last season behind them and require your support now more than ever and kitting out in your colours is a perfect way to pledge your loyalty.
