A still from the match between AIFF Elite Academy and Frenz United

Milan Basumatary's hat-trick wasn't sufficient for the AIFF Elite Academy as they went down 4-5 to Frenz United – Malaysia in their last group stage match at Maybank Stadium, Malaysia.

A bizarre twist in the tale was the introduction to the thrilling half, as Milan Basumatary sweetly timed his header from Amey Ranawade's cross to give the AIFF the lead in the 5th minute.

Lifted by the early opening; the colts started by pressing their opponents. A quick transition merely found Milan Basumatary up against the dispersed defence; the AIFF No. 9 did not waste the chance to whip the defence out by his striking pace to slot the ball home with the marvellous solo effort.

As rain lashed the city, Moinudduin Khan continued his prolific form for the AIFF and got himself on the scoresheet with a good effort. The attacking midfielder latched on to Robinson Singh’s decisive through ball to place it past rival goalkeeper. Frenz United’s response was quick and in similar fashion; When Amirul Rasmizal went up for the challenge with AIFF’s goalkeeper; the inaccuracy in the collection by the Arshdeep Singh saw the ball ricochet into the back of the net.

From then it was all Frenz United; two solo powered goals in 3 minute by Dicky Firmansyah and Zidane Constant decided the matter. At half-time, the score was 3-3.

After the restart, the game slid into the pockets of Frenz United; when Dicky Firmansyah curled the ball to the top corner from the edge of the penalty area in the 60th minute. The masterpiece came in the 75th minute; when Abdul Ismawi riffled his shot from 30 yards leaving the AIFF goalkeeper oblivious.

The AIFF colts pulled one back with Milan Basumatary completing his treble on a cross from Japes Singh to head it past rival keeper. The AIFF exerted further pressure to find the late minute equaliser by launching chains of attacks, but the final score remained 4-5 in the favour of Frenz United Malaysia.
