Mizoram became only the second north-east state after Manipur to lift the Santosh Trophy last Sunday and as reported by inkhel.com, the winning squad was given a well-deserved hero’s welcome on their return to the capital city of Aizawl on Wednesday.

Thousands gathered at Aizawl’s Lengpui Airport to greet their heroes with the state government declaring Wednesday as a public holiday.

The players then headed to the Assam Rifles Ground with thousands following them to the venue. The players paraded the prestigious Santosh Trophy to all corners of the stadium much to the delight of the thousands of locals.

There were cultural programs while Mizoram Football Association officials and state politicians including the chief minister publicly paid their tributes to the whole team. The players were also felicitated with various gifts and the celebrations continued into the night all around this football-crazy state.
