Assistant coach Oscar Bruzon lambasts Mumbai City FC's performance, calls it worst since pre-season

Mumbai City FC flattered to deceive once again as they went down 2-0 to Chennaiyin FC at home as the defeat left them reeling with just one point picked up from their first three games. A lot was expected of Mumbai City FC in their first home game of the season, but it was the visitors who took all the plaudits as they ran out fairly comfortable winners in the end.

Mumbai City FC’s assistant coach Oscar Bruzon was highly critical of his team’s performance and labeled it his side’s worst performance since Mumbai City FC started their pre-season.

“This was our worst performance since we started our pre-season. Today we practically made mistakes in every area of the pitch and the players who were involved today didn’t do enough to get us anything from the game,” said a rather livid Oscar Bruzon.

The Spaniard admitted that Mumbai City FC’s possession game wasn’t working and their various experiments during the game to make the play more effective didn’t go according to the plan.

“We knew our possession game wasn’t very effective and hence we decided to go a little bit direct with Frederic Piquionne from the start. We also tried to get Sunil Chhetri in the game by making him switch flanks with Sony, but it didn’t help. We will now have to go back and analyze what went wrong and correct it before the next game,” Bruzon added.

Mumbai City FC’s struggles to get on the score sheet raises questions about Nicolas Anelka’s absence from the squad as his presence in the team could have been the catalyst to Mumbai City FC making their close moments count. But Oscar refused to be drawn on that issue and said he focused on the players which played rather than those who were sitting out.

“I don’t like to talk about players who are not playing. For me, the players which played didn’t give us the positive solution and my concern is how I will put that right.”

We will never stop fighting: Bruzon

The Mumbai City FC coach and support staff now have their work cut out to get the team morale up and sort the problems before Roberto Carlos’ Delhi Dynamos come to town. Oscar Bruzon though expressed that he and his team will fight to win every game they play and won’t give up on their dream of winning the ISL.

“I say today and will keep on saying till the last day that we are here to win the ISL. We have accepted the difficult results, but that doesn’t mean we don’t fight. Mumbai City FC will fight in every match and that is a guarantee,” Oscar Bruzon said.

An in form Delhi Dynamos side will test the under-fire Mumbai City FC and both Nicolas Anelka and Oscar Bruzon will need to put in a lot of work to get Mumbai City FC up for that challenge. It may not yet be the time to press the panic button, but the margin for error for Mumbai City FC is becoming thinner and thinner by the day.
