Pique trolls 'legend' Mascherano for not scoring for Barcelona
Gerard Pique is a hilarious character on social media, at the very least. This time he set his target on Barcelona teammate and fellow defender Javier Mascherano. The former Liverpool star is the footballer to make the most appearances for Barcelona without scoring and his Spanish teammate took to Twitter to troll the Argentinian.
Before Mascherano, Michael Reiziger was the man who held the dubious record with the Catalan giants. The former defender played 255 games for the 5-times Champions League winners during his 7-year spell with the club. However, this season Mascherano, with 259 games without scoring, broke that ‘record’.
Despite not being known for his goalscoring exploits, it is astonishing that the 31-year-old has not found the back of the net for Barca, especially given the club’s penchant for scoring goals by the dozen. For his former club, Liverpool, he had scored twice in 4 seasons, but he has yet to change the score in any match in his 6th season with the Spanish giants.
The entire incident happened when Pique held a Twitter Q&A and a fan asked him when he thinks Mascherano will break his duck.
Here’s how the interaction happened:
Fan: Do you think Masch wil score any goal for Barca?
Pique: I am convinced he will score sooner or later. He is a legend!
That was the moment when Mascherano interrupted.
Pique: You are welcome. For me, improving Reiziger’s record as the most matches without scoring a goal for Barca makes you a legend!
Mascherano: Hahaha what a son of a ... You're great even to make me smile. That is what touches me. I hope I won't improve it (the record) too much.
Here’s the original conversation in Spanish:
Midfielder Sergi Roberto was also praised by the Barca defender and tipped to don the goalkeeping gloves for the team.
