ISL Player Ratings: FC Pune City 3-1 Mumbai City FC

Mumbai City FC

Albino Gomes- 5.5/10

The young keeper had to fill in the place of star custodian Subrata Pal today. He was average, making a few decent saves. He was partly responsible for the first goal, failing to communicate well with his defenders. Otherwise, he played confidently throughout the game.

Keegan Pereira- 4/10

The poorest performer of the match, Keegan was hardly noticed in the game. Although being one of the brilliant performers of last year’s I-League, he couldn’t do justice to himself today. Israil used this to his advantage, exploiting the side of the defense covered by him.

Pavel Cmovs- 6.5/10

Pavel was the only good performer in the Mumbai’s defense today. He started the game strongly striking a well-worked partnership with fellow centre-back Bertin. We also saw him moving up from the deep defense to support the attack in the second half.

Frantz Bertin- 5.5/10

He was average, playing in the center of the defense for the Mumbai City team. He tried his best to cover the gaps in the defense. His fitness is a concern since he hardly moved up in the second half.

Ashutosh Mehta- 5.5/10

Mehta was very inconsistent and he played in patches. If the match can be divided into four quarters then Mehta was very good in the second and fourth quarter. He provided a brilliant cross which was converted by Piquionne right before halftime. But he was also very bad in the first and the third phases. He should have covered Tuncay better during the second half in order to stop him from scoring.

Pratesh Shirodhkar – 5.5/10

The Sporting Club de Goa midfielder tried his best to cover the central midfield position although he wasn’t very influential in the match. He won some hard fought tackles in the middle of the park in the first half. Coming forward to attack he lost possession a number of times.

Andre Moritz- 5/10

Last year’s best player for the Mumbai franchise was nowhere near his form last year. He was hardly able to control the game from the midfield. A number of half chances should have been converted into a goal by a player of his calibre. He was substituted in the 63rd minute.

Gabriel Fernandes- 6.5/10

The Goan midfielder was one of the best performers for the Mumbai City FC team today, especially in the first half. He dribbled past defenders bursting through the wings. He was not ideally supported by the other midfielders of the Mumbai team. Placing him at a more out and out position could have benefited the team.

Aguilera- 5/10

Aguilera was very poor. He hardly won the ball from the FC Pune players. Although positioned on the wings he kept shifting inside which left open spaces in the right wing for Pune players to exploit. He had to be substituted in the 75th minute of the game.

Sony Norde- 6/10

Being technically very strong he was excellent in the first half hitting the post once and creating a number of chances for his fellow team mates. Nevertheless, when Colotto covered him in the second half, he hardly was able to move. He exploits open spaces with a sudden burst of speed coupled with crisp step-overs. Open spaces were unavailable for him in the second half which limited his impact on the match.

Frédéric Piquionne- 7/10

Starting slowly, he gradually picked up pace after the first 15 minutes of the game. The ex-West Ham United player scored a brilliant goal in the first half timing his run to perfection. He also provided a defence-splitting through ball to Nicholas Anelka in the 72nd minute of the match which should have been converted by the Frenchman. A little more creativity and effort could have helped him score more goals today.

Subs:

Benachour- 6.5/10

Last year’s consistent performer, he played well today after coming on in the second half. He created a few quality chances for the strikers. After he came on the field, Mumbai was able to get a little bit of the control in the midfield region.

Nicholas Anelka- 5/10

Unfit marquee player-cum-manager of Mumbai city FC had a disappointing outing in the middle of the park. He failed to score from an amazing through ball in the second half. He needs to get back to match fitness if his team has to bounce back from today’s loss.

Subhash Singh- 5/10

In the 10 minutes he was on the field, all he could manage was a corner and two touches of the ball which were not very clean. He could have done better with a ball he received on the wings which he helplessly shot onto a defender for a corner.
