We have seen plenty of exciting football on December 26, 2015. That wasn’t all, there was more. On Boxing Day, Puma unveiled evoSPEED SL-S – the latest offering in the evoSPEED lineup from Puma.

Puma evoSPEED SL (released earlier this year) hit the footballing world like a storm. These were the lightest football boots from Puma. They weighed around 103g and were just a tad heavier than Adidas’s Adizero Crazylight 99g.

While the original Puma evoSPEED SL only lasts for about 10 games (definitely not the shoe for practice) and was designed specifically for match days only; the latest iteration will last a lot more. Continue reading to find out how Puma addressed this issue and to know more about this brilliant football shoe from the German sports equipment manufacturer.

First, let’s come to the most important part – the weight: This football cleat no longer weighs 103g but weighs around 148g. When compared with other football boots, these cleats still fall in the lightweight category (a huge plus!).

The launch colorway boasts a striking yellow upper along with blue decals. We see bold Puma lettering on the forefoot area of the shoe. Traditional Puma design covers the side of the cleat. Looking at the design, these football cleats are very similar to Puma evoSPEED 1.4 and Puma evoSPEED SL.

Puma’s primary goal was to increase the durability. To achieve this, Puma introduced a new monolayer microfiber in the upper. This not only increases the durability but also helps the player to push harder. All good things come with a price; hence, the increase in weight. Not only that, this new material is very comfortable too. The monolayer microfiber also ensures that there is added stability along with a supreme first touch.

SPEEDFRAME (a reinforced chassis) in the midfoot area improves the overall fit of the shoe and ensures unparalleled lockdown. All your quick feet movements will be a breeze with Puma evoSPEED SL-S. For additional comfort, these football boots also feature a removable sock-liner and a tongue made of EVA foam. Moreover, for added stability, Puma introduced an external heel counter that wraps your foot in place. An ultra-thin nylon soleplate offers astounding levels of strength-to-weight ratio.

Coming to the outsole, the SL-S features revolutionary SPEEDTRACK spines for better torsional stability. Regarding the stud pattern, we see a mixture of both conical as well as strategically placed bladed studs that offer a perfect blend of instant acceleration and rotational agility on FG (Firm Ground) surfaces.

Players such as Marco Reus, Sergio Agüero, and Marco Verratti will debut these football boots starting from December 26, 2015.

Puma evoSPEED SL-S are available for purchase from January 2, 2015 on Puma.com along with other select online retailers and retail at £160 i.e., around 16,000INR. Availability in India is TBA.

Bottom-line: A much-needed update to the original Puma evoSPEED SL.
