What’s the story?

RCD Espanyol will establish a foundation in association with CF Santivicenti and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in India to work closely with the underprivileged youth of the country. The project aims to work towards eradicating extreme poverty and will be promoted by CF Santivicenti and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.

In case you didn’t know…

The Vicente Ferrer Foundation (VFF) is based out of the United States of America and has been working in rural India for a long time now. VFF global programs have aided over three million people in more than three thousand villages in eliminating poverty via sustainable solutions.

The CF Santvicenti was originated in 1945 by the influence of athletes such as Miquel Colomer, Salvador Torrents, with an aim to introduce and familiarise football in Spain. Another target for CF Santvicenti was to support those most in need. In collaboration with the VFF, the Club has been sending dedicated coaches to train kids over a period of ten days via a camp in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh for the last decade.

Heart of the matter

La Liga team, RCD Espanyol will join hands with the VFF as well as the CF Santvicenti to work towards the eradication of extreme poverty in India. The three parties will join forces and work towards the growth of initiatives to combat the needs of the lesser privileged communities of the country.

Sports equipment will be provided for the children of the Anantapur area by the Barcelona-based football club, where the trainers from CF Santvicenti will be conducting a football camp and the VFF works closely to help the people of the rural area. Eloy Perez, the Sporting Director of RCD Espanyol, will be working closely on this project.

What’s next?

Spanish grassroots impacting the development of the youth of India in the field of football is sure a privilege, considering the skill and game sense the Spaniards bring to the game. This initiative from RCD Espanyol will establish football leagues in the destitute areas of India.

Author’s take

This is a beautiful gesture and initiative that would not only chip in towards the grassroots of the youngsters of the Andhra town but also promote football in the country among the youth. Having such a largely populated country, it is now time for India to flourish on the global footballing maps!
