Roots Football League to kick-off in Bangalore this month

Game On Sports Management, which runs football training programmes for kids, has initiated a grassroots football league – Sunfeast Dream Cream Roots Football League (RFL) with the league set to kick-off in Bangalore this month. RFL is conceptualized as a platform where the junior and youth football players can participate in a competitive playing environment. The league, played over weekends, will span over a period of three months where all the teams will play against each other in a round robin format. The format is designed to offer maximum exposure to participants.

The Roots Football League has partnered with Sunfeast, which has always been proudly associated with sporting events of such nature – World 10K Marathon, Sunfeast Open, etc.

Just like any other major leagues across the globe, EPL, La Liga, and so on, performance statistics for the weekend with league standing will be the talking point for the week to sustain the enthusiasm throughout the season. RFL will also provide an opportunity for individuals to play in a team environment. The registered players will be distributed among teams based on skill and age to ensure the teams are balanced. Each team will have a distinct team name and team colour to develop an identity among the kids with their team.

RFL, in partnership with Sunfeast, aspires to create a football movement among kids and parents – the League will encourage more children in the age group to play football, thus broadening the base of football in our community. The league would encourage parents’ active involvement in the form of Parent Coaches and Managers. An exclusive orientation session is scheduled by qualified coaches of Roots Football School to inculcate Football coaching and managerial skills among the parents.

Bappaditya Bhattacharjee, Director of Game On Sports explains, “Competitive matches are an integral part of grassroots development. Kids in Bangalore did not have any avenue to play organised matches in their age group. In Europe, kids play around 40-60 matches per year. Hence the idea of the league was born.”
