Salgaocar FC juniors taste double success over Sesa FA (U-20 and U-18)

Salgaocar FC’s Myron Borges tries to get the better of an opponent in the U-20 GFA Taca Goa tournament

Vasco: Salgaocar’s U-20s dished out a commanding performance to blank Sesa FA 4-0 in the GFA Taca Goa U-20 tournament, a day after the U-18s beat the same opponents 2-1 in the GFA U-18 league.

Starting the match on a very positive note, ‘The Greens’ dominated possession and created chances aplenty from the outset but were unable to break the deadlock for most of the half. The breakthrough finally did arrive in the 40th minute when Stefen Fernandes headed in an inch perfect Harmanjot cross from the right.

Changing over ends, Salgaocar’s U-20s went on a rampage. Playing a high pressing game, they barely allowed their opponents to settle down and were constantly on the attack using the flanks to excellent effect.

Just after the hour mark, hardworking midfielder Klins Mendes found the back of the net from the top of the box to double the lead for the Greens. Sanson Pereira latched on to the ball on the left and after making much headway pulled the ball back for Myron Borges, who in turn relayed the ball to Klins to finish of the move in some style.

The evening got better for the Salgaocar lads a couple of minutes later when goal keeper Chinmaya’s long goal kick found Jason on the edge of the opponents box. With the ball bouncing around, Jason was unable to bring the ball under control but his overhead kick saw an on-rushing Stefen place calmly past the keeper in the Sesa goal for his second of the evening.

Salgaocar’s fourth goal, by far the best of the evening was scored by striker Myron Borges, who was in fine form and showed glimpses of brilliance through the game with deft touches and defence splitting passes.

A low power packed free-kick taken by Harmanjot from the right saw the keeper fumble and thereafter parry the ball away. Stefen Fernandes who was lurking was the first to the ball on the by-line and sent in a cross to the box where Myron scored a stunning left foot volley on the turn.

In the GFA U-18 league, The Greens fought valiantly to recover from a goal down to win 2-1. The goals were scored of set-pieces as Lalit’s corners on both occasions were met by Flagan Rodrigues and Saurabh Patil respectively.
