Mizoram and Karnataka registered big wins on day four

Day four of the 72nd Santosh Trophy saw Mizoram register a big win over Odisha by 5-0 while Karnataka routed experienced campaigners Goa in 4-1 win.

Match 1: Mizoram 5-0 Odisha

Mizoram rout a helpless Odisha side 5-0 in their second match of the Santosh Trophy 2017-18 final round at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, Kolkata.

Midfielder Lalromawia scored yet another brace to guide his team to glory. The other goals were netted by Lalbiakhlua, Malsawmdawngliana and F. Lalrinpuia.

Mizoram started the game on a positive note with constant sights at goal. Mizoram squandered five crucial goal scoring chances in the first thirty minutes.

The deadlock was finally broken as Zomuanpuia headed the ball into the net from Lalrinpuia’s cross from the left at the 37th Minute Mark.

Lalromawia increased the lead in the 41st minute after following a wonderful through ball down the middle from Lalnun Tluanga and comfortably slotted the ball home.

The sides went into the break with the scoreboard flashing 2-0 in favour of Mizoram.

The team from the NorthEast looked impressive in their performance in the early minutes of the second half as well.

They were on song with pinpoint passing and pressed hard for the third goal. Mizoram were finally rewarded for their attacking approach, as Lalromawia scored his second of the day as he slotted home from Lalbiakhlua’s cross in the 59th minute.

Odisha were made to look out of all sorts in the second half. The Odisha keeper made a mess of a simple save and parried it straight to a Mizo shirt and Malsawmdawngliana kept his composure and pushed the ball into an empty net.

F. Lalrinpuia scored the final goal of the day to round up the day in Howrah.

Mizoram next face Punjab on 24th March, Saturday at Howrah Stadium and Odisha meet Karnataka on the same day at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium.

Match 2: Karnataka 4-1 Goa

Karnataka bounced back after being one goal down to rout title favourites Goa in the Howrah Stadium on Thursday.

Kapil Hoble scored in the 26th minute for Goa. The Goans looked composed in the first half and got into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

The second half started with Karnataka having greater possession and looked more threatening going forward, thanks to crisp passing, good off-the-ball movement and dazzling individual skills.

Karnataka found the equaliser through skipper Vignesh, who slotted from Sukesh Leon's pass in the 54th minute.

A Composed Goan side in the first half, was completely out of touch and Karnataka were on song.

Two goals in ten minutes from Rajesh and an own goal Mathew Goncalves put Karnataka into the driver's seat.

Karnataka put the game to bed after Leon Augustine dispatched a venomous volley at the 89th minute and made it 4-1.

Karnataka will face Odisha next on March 24 at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium while Goa will face the same opponents on March 26 at Mohun Began Ground.
