Services defeated Punjab 5-4 on penalties to win the Santosh Trophy

Services defeated hosts Punjab 5-4 on penalties to win the 69th edition of the National Football Champions for the Santosh Trophy 2014/15 at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on Sunday afternoon.

Services won their fourth overall Santosh Trophy title after 1961, 2012 and 2013; which also meant it was Services' third title in only four years. Punjab meanwhile lost their seventh final in their 15th final appearance and also lost the Santosh Trophy on home soil for the first-time as they had won the trophy in 1970 and 1974 when the hosted the tournament.

It was hard fought match with the better chances with the Services team, but Jagroop Singh in goal and the woodwork came to the rescue of the Punjab on a few occasions.

After 120 minutes of goalless football the match went a penalty shootout, in which Ajay Singh, Sarbjit Singh, Amarwant Singh and Ravinder Singh scored for Punjab, but Paramjit Singh's attempt was saved by Services goalkeeper Shibin Raj.

On the other side, Services scored all their five penalties through Anthony Chettri, Vibin T.V., Francis Zonuntulunga, Arjun Tudu and Rakesh Singh to win the match and the tournament.
