Shillong Lajong FC will be participating in the 35th Federation Cup 2013/14 in Kerala and the team departed for Kochi earlier today. The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups of four teams with Lajong FC in Group B, along with Salgaocar FC, Mohun Bagan AC and Mumbai FC.
The Red’s best performance in the Federation Cup was in the 2009/10 Season when they went on to reach the final, but lost there to East Bengal Club on penalties. Lajong FC will look to put on an improved performance this year as they look to win the Fed Cup for the first time to create create history.
Lajong FC who believe in promoting and scouting young talent have nine players in the final squad from the Under-23 side wherein seven players are from the Shillong Lajong Youth Academy.
Brazilian striker Uilliams Souza Silva will not be travelling with the team as he was declared unfit by the Club’s medical staff and will be undergoing a series of test and treatment in Shillong.
The Reds will take on Salgaocar FC in their first Fed Cup match January 15, followed by a match against Mohun Bagan AC on January 18 and their third match will be against Mumbai FC on January 21.
