Shillong Lajong’s new signing Kamimura bags match-saving brace on debut

Shillong Lajong’s new signing Sho Kamimura scored a brace on his debut to help the north-eastern club come from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Air India in Shillong on Monday.

In a bid to avoid relegation from the I-League, Lajong, who recently sacked Desmond Bulpin as their head coach, signed former Japan U-18 and U-19 striker Kamimura after having released midfielder Ebi Sukore.

The 23-year-old striker had an instant impact on his very first game in Indian football as he first cancelled out Henry Ezeh’s opener in the first half and then equalised in second half stoppage time after Prakash Thorat had put Air India in front again.

Kamimura becomes Lajong’s second signing in this winter transfer window following the recruitment of another Japanese, midfielder Taisuke Matsugane.

Kamimura has previously played for J League second division outfit Mito HollyHock and last played for Albirex Niigata FC in Singapore’s S-League.

Following the arrival of Kamimura, there are now six Japanese players in the I-League and the East Asian nation is the most represented Asian country in the competition after India.
