Nigerian striker Obiora Richard Anorue had joined Sporting Clube de Goa midway through the season. The Nigerian had replaced Cameroon striker Bong Bertand who had failed to impress the team management in the pre-season. The Nigerian made his debut in the I-League against the Mohan Bagan. The 26-year-old striker played 8 matches for the Flaming Orange and had a below par performance for the club, scoring just 2 goals. The club management felt the need for a more competent striker.

The striker has represented U-23 Nigerian national team on 17 occasions without scoring a single goal. The former junior Nigerian International also had stints with top Indonesian Clubs.

Sporting Clube de Goa is currently in 10th position in the league standings after 13 outings. The Goan club has struggled this season so far. The striking department has been a problem area for the club. The club has scored only 17 goals. The young Indian strikers available at the club have not clicked.

The Goan club has two Spanish strikers and one Nigerian striker on the radar and one of them will be signed in the transfer window. The club will hope to turn things around with the signing of the new striker.
