Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, whose contract expires at the end of the current season, has announced that he will be leaving the Reds and join a club in the United States of America. The club who he will join in the USA has remained a mystery, but the legendary midfielder has said that he is close to deciding which will be his new club.

“I’ll be going to play in the USA," he said. "I’m not over the line with any team yet. I’m close and as soon as I know, I’ll make the announcement.”

Loyal Gerrard will not play for a club competing against Liverpool

Gerrard, who will turn 35 by the time he leaves his boyhood club, had said that he will not join any club that would involve him lining up against Liverpool.

He said, "I'm going to carry on playing and although I can't confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will be somewhere that means I won't be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool - that is something I could never contemplate.

"My decision is completely based on my wish to experience something different in my career and life and I also want to make sure that I have no regrets when my playing career is eventually over."

Earlier, Manuel Pellegrini had revealed that he would love it if he could bring Steven Gerrard to Manchester City and even Ronald Koeman has said that he would be interesting in signing Gerrard if he changed his mind. David Moyes also expressed his desire to bring Gerrard to Real Sociedad, but the possibility of them meeting in Europe would definitely scupper such a move for the maverick Englishman.

LA Galaxy seem to be leading the chase to sign Gerrard. Sports Illustrated senior writer, Grant Wahl, thinks that it’ll be the Los Angeles based team if Gerrard is to move to Major League Soccer (MLS).

Gerrard hopes he can come back to Liverpool soon

The man who joined Liverpool as an 8-year-old said that he hopes ‘it is not a goodbye, but a see you soon’

However, he said that he wouldn’t be back just for the sake of it and would only return if he thought he could help the club.
