Super Cup 2018: Sergio Lobera leaves for Spain, Derrick Pereira to take charge of FC Goa

FC Goa manager Sergio Lobera has left the Gaurs' squad, and will not be in charge of the team's dugout for the remainder of the season. Assistant coach Derrick Pereira is set to take charge for the upcoming Super Cup.

Having finished third in the league stage of the recently-concluded season of the ISL, FC Goa made it to yet another semifinal this season but failed to get past eventual winners Chennaiyin FC.

Now, with their ISL campaign over, most of FC Goa's foreign players along with their head coach, have gone back home for a 10-day break.

While the players are expected to be back before the Super Cup, Lobera will not return for the rest of the season, club authorities confirmed to Sportskeeda. Lobera has gone on a maternity leave, and will only be back next season.

The Spaniard had signed a two-year contract with the Gaurs at the start of the 2017/18 season and is set to return for the upcoming campaign.

With regards to the Super Cup, however, FC Goa will be without the guidance of their gaffer, as Pereira, who is the assistant coach at the club, will take charge of the dugout.

The 56-year-old Pereira brings with him bags of experience in Indian football, having coached clubs like Mahindra United, Pune FC, Salgaocar, DSK Shivaians, and Churchill Brothers.

Goa have had a stellar season, as they played one of the most exciting brands of football in ISL. In fact, they ended the league stage of the ISL as the top scorers, netting 42 goals. Their striker Ferran Corominas (a.k.a. Coro) also won the golden boot, having scored 18 goals.in 20 matches.

With the Super Cup coming up, the Gaurs are all set to face off against two-time ISL champions ATK on April 3, at the Kalinga Sports Complex, in Bhubaneswar.
