The AIFF condoles T. Shanmugam's death

The All India Football Federation condoled the demise of former Indian footballer Thulukhanamm Shanmugam who passed away in Bangalore on Thursday, December 13. Shanmugam was a part of the Gold Medal winning squad of the 1951 Asian Games in Delhi and also represented India in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was 92. Shanmugam made his debut on March 7 against Afghanistan in the semifinal of the 1951 Asian Games in New Delhi. Apart from that, he also represented India in another match – in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics against Yugoslavia.

AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said, “Shanmugam will be alive in his achievements. He was a legendary footballer and someone who has been the inspiration of so many generations. May he Rest in Peace.”

Shanmugam represented Mysore in the Santosh Trophy between 1949-54. He also was member of the Santosh Trophy winning squad in 1952.

After his playing days, Shanmugam went on to coach Salgaocar SC and Goa.
